300 B.C. – A.D. 800
The Yayoi period (300 B.C. – A.D. 300) in Japan introduced new technologies and agricultural practices. The Yamato period (A.D. 250 – 710) marked the rise of the first powerful Japanese clans and the beginning of centralized rule. During the Nara period (710 – 794), Japan established its first permanent capital, and Shinto, the indigenous religion centered around nature and ancestors, became more defined. The Ainu people, indigenous to northern Japan maintained their traditional way of life while interacting with the emerging Japanese state.
