Capetian France

750 – 1258

During the Capetian dynasty, which began in 987, France saw significant changes. The rise of Gothic cathedrals, such as Notre-Dame, marked a golden age of architectural innovation and religious expression. This period also featured Eleanor of Aquitaine, a powerful and influential figure who ruled as Duchess of Aquitaine and Queen of France before her marriage to Henry II of England. The Capetian era laid the foundations for a unified French kingdom.
