1804 – 1806
The Lewis and Clark Expedition was a major journey of exploration across the western United States. Led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the expedition set out to map the newly-acquired Louisiana Territory and find a route to the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, they documented new plants and animals, mapped uncharted territories, and established relationships with Native American tribes. This journey significantly expanded knowledge of the American West and inspired future exploration.
