Ancient Babylon was a powerful city-state in Mesopotamia, famous for its impressive architecture and advancements in law and science. The Babylonians built the legendary Hanging Gardens, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the massive ziggurat known as the Tower of Babel. They also developed one of the earliest known legal codes, the Code of Hammurabi. Babylon became a center for trade, culture, and learning, influencing the development of civilizations across the ancient Near East.
