The Mauryan Empire, founded by Chandragupta Maurya, was a powerful dynasty that ruled over much of ancient India. Its most renowned ruler, Emperor Ashoka, expanded the empire to its greatest extent and is remembered for his transformation from a fierce conqueror to a champion of peace and Buddhism.
