The Celts

500 B.C. – A.D. 43

The ancient Celts were a diverse group of tribes spread across Europe, from Ireland and Scotland to France, Spain, and beyond. From around 500 B.C., Celtic cultures flourished with rich traditions in art, music, and warfare. They were known for their complex societies, impressive metalwork, and distinctive practices. The Celts’ influence extended across Europe until their gradual conquest by the Roman Empire, culminating in their most significant defeat in A.D. 43 when the Romans began to assert control over Celtic territories in Britain.
